ChoirThe music department in Chester is very strong, and the excellence of the choir in the superb setting of this Cathedral makes Choral Evensong, in particular, incomparable. There is no choir school at Chester, so the choristers are drawn from a number of local schools. The Cathedral Choir not only sings regular and special services to a very high standard; its members also act as ambassadors for the Cathedral by visiting parish churches in the Diocese, and occasionally by performing concerts in other countries. The choir regularly broadcasts on Radio 3 and Radio 4. As well as the traditional Choir of boys, the Cathedral has since 1997 recruited girl trebles, who sing regularly with the Lay Clerks. Very occasionally the girls and boys combine for special events. This venture has been extremely successful. The Cathedral Choir also occasionally sings with visiting artists such as Aled Jones (shown below at a concert in April 2008) The Nave Choir which is a voluntary Choir (in fact, it's the longest established Cathedral voluntary choir in the country!) sing a number of services in the course of a year and they occasionally join the Cathedral Choir for celebration services.
