Assistant Director of Music

The role of the Assistant Director of Music is to work under the supervision of the Director of Music to support the musical life of the Cathedral. Particularly important is the provision of music that supports and enhances the worshipping life of the Cathedral by the playing of the organ and the singing of the Cathedral choir. 

The musical life of the Cathedral also embraces those aspects of mission achieved through outreach, community, commercial and fundraising to support the mission and vision of Chapter under the direction of the Canon Precentor and Chapter. This role is to sustain and develop further the Cathedral’s outstanding musical tradition.

The successful candidate will be a committed Christian with appropriate professional qualifications and a demonstrated ability as an accompanist, recitalist, choir trainer and improviser. They must also possess the ability to inspire people of all ages by having the energy, ambition, vision and enthusiasm that this key role requires.

Lay Clerk

( Bass)

Chester Cathedral is a major focus for Anglican worship in the North-West of England. The Chapter wish to appoint a Bass Lay Clerk from January 2008, or earlier.

The Cathedral is noted for its long tradition of English Choral Music.  The standard of singing is high and the repertoire wide.

Candidates must have fluent sight reading skills and previous experience in choral music is desirable.

The salary is £6,763 pa and there is a possibility of accommodation at commercial rent.

Vacancies also exist for Choral Scholars.

Assistant Chef/Commis Chef

Chester Cathedral is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and organised Assistant Chef to assist in the daily production of food.   You will be required to cover the Chef’s days off and assist in the provision of a high class service for special functions.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate the capability of providing food to a high standard and a strong commitment to customer care.  Candidates should have NVQ  Level 2 or equivalent.

Hours of work are 35 per week, 5/7 days.

Restaurant Assistants

Full Time and Part Time 

We currently have vacancies in the Refectory Restaurant; full time and part time. Duties include customer service and general cleaning.

Candidates must have excellent customer service skills and previous experience in a busy catering environment is desirable.

Hours of work:  9am to 5pm.  The full time position is 5/7 days and the part-time position - various days .Weekend working is included.
