The Association was founded in 1920, with its principal object being to keep members in touch with one another, with the Cathedral and with the Federation of Cathedral Old Choristers' Associations to which Chester is affiliated.
Membership is open to all former choristers of Chester Cathedral, all former choristers of other Cathedrals and Collegiate Churches, or those who attended the Chester Cathedral Choir School.
Three functions are usually held each year:
- An Association Choir sings Evensong with Cathedral Choir.
- An informal Social Evening is held in the late Spring or early Summer.
- On the Saturday before Remembrance Sunday, the Annual Reunion takes place, the programme consisting of an AGM, Choral Evensong and Procession to the OCA Memorial Window in the Cloisters, and a Dinner in the evening.
In addition, many members of the Chester Association attended the Federation Festival which is held annually in different Cathedrals.
